A source has reported to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne that the Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Mike Brown after the team’s poor 1-4 start to the season.

Brown has been on the hot seat since the Lakers got off to the worst start in the Western Conference, but it was thought that Brown would have upcoming six-game homestand before a decision on his future was made.

Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff will take over the role as the team’s interim head coach until they make a decision as to what they will do long-term.

Mike D’Antoni, Nate McMillan, Jerry Sloan, Brian Shaw and, of course, the ever-lingering hopes of a Phil Jackson return are all names that have all been thrown into the mix for who would take over the head coaching job of the Lakers permanently.

The Lakers made two key acquisitions this offseason in all-star center Dwight Howard and an aging Steve Nash, both of which have been dealing with ailments of their own. Howard, coming off back surgery, has yet to get back to his dominate ways and Nash has only played in 1 1/2 of the Lakers games after suffering a leg injury.
