A recent Businessweek.com study entitled “Smartest Spenders in Sports” ranked every franchise in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB in terms of salary cost per win over the past year. They added increased value for championships, playoff wins, and wins when a team is over .500, but the site allows you to play with those numbers and recalculate it however you like. It’s pretty cool; check it out here.
As a Boston fan I was fairly pleased with my Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots being ranked 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively. The Red Sox however came in at a distant #70 of 122. It comes as no surprise though, just the other day the Sox brought to an end a remarkable run of 20 consecutive winning seasons for Boston sports.
