This past weekend the Yokohama F. Marinos faced off against Sanfrecce Hiroshima F.C. for a J-League Division 1 match and Hiroshima midfielder Toshihiro Aoyama threw his hat in the ring for goal of the year candidate.
With the score tied at 0-0, Aoyama saw a chance to beat the goalie who was off his line. The catch was that Aoyama was 75-yards away from that goal. With seemingly little chance to make the miracle shot, he launched it anyway and sure enough he landed it perfectly past the goalie’s head into the onion basket. The incredible goal was followed up with a well thought out celebration, which also deserves points.
