Golden State Warriors fans showed no love for owner Joe Lacob during a jersey retirement ceremony for Hall of Famer Chris Mullin on Monday night. The scene unfolded in a very unexpected way with Lacob enduring a solid minute of boos before Mullin came to his defense.
However, as Mullin handed the stage back to Lacob, the boos started again. This time, Hall of Famer Rick Barry took the microphone and chastised the crowd (around the three minute mark of the video).
“Show this man the respect he deserves,” said Barry, who called it “classless” before handing the stage back to Lacob once again.
Following the game, Lacob said this to Marc Spears of Yahoo (via twitter):
“The fans are upset I guess that we traded one of our favorites. That’s all I can attribute that to. What I feel bad about is… they kind of ruined a night that was very special. The organization really tried to do the right thing with Chris.”
Lacob recently signed off on a deal that sent fan favorite Monta Ellis to the Bucks for usually injured big man Andrew Bogut and former Warrior Stephen Jackson, who was then shipped to the Spurs.
We have to say that this isn’t the best look for Warriors fans.
