The Carolina Panthers have their starting quarterback sorted out with Bryce Young returning, but after an injury during Thursday night’s Hall of Fame game, it sounds like the team is adding a veteran quarterback to add some depth at the position.

During Thursday night’s 33-30 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame game, Panthers rookie Haynes King suffered a hamstring injury that caused him to leave the game. As a result, it sounds like the team is adding another veteran quarterback to help bolster the roster.

According to a report from Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers have decided to sign veteran quarterback Kyle Trask to help add some important depth to the roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.

As Kaye pointed out, Trask has a history with Panthers head coach Dave Canales.

“The #Panthers are expected to add former Bucs QB Kyle Trask following Haynes King’s hamstring injury, per a league source. Trask worked under Dave Canales in Tampa Bay in 2023. He also worked out for the team last week. A corresponding move will be needed,” he wrote in a post on X.

As Kaye notes, Trask played for the Buccaneers when Canales was the team’s offensive coordinator, spending four seasons in Tampa Bay before he was ultimately released last year. After he was released by Tampa Bay, Trask was signed by the Atlanta Falcons, where he spent time on their practice squad.

Throughout his three years in the league, Trask has appeared in seven games, all with the Buccaneers. In those games, Trask completed 10 of 27 passes for 28 yards with no interceptions or touchdowns.

While Trask is coming to Carolina to help add depth following King’s injury, it does not sound like King’s injury is all that serious, as Joe Person of TheAthletic.com reports that King is considered week-to-week as a result of the hamstring injury.
