The Ohio State Buckeyes lost offensive coordinator Chip Kelly back to the National Football League and Jim Knowles to the Penn State Nittany Lions. On Wednesday, the Buckeyes moved to hire a coach while they deal with attrition elsewhere.
Ohio State has acted quickly after Kelly recently left to go pursue the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator job. The Buckeyes, who are down both coordinators after their National Championship season, have moved to pluck a coach with NFL experience from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
According to a report from On3, the Buckeyes will hire Virginia Tech’s Tyler Bowen. Bowen is expected to be the Buckeyes’ new offensive line coach in the 2025 season.
“Multiple sources tell On3 that Ohio State is expected to hire Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen as its next offensive line coach,” Pete Nakos of On3 wrote.
The Buckeyes won the National Championship for the first time in ten years this past season. Ohio State won the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff after winning the first-ever four-team Playoff back in 2014. Jeremiah Smith and the Buckeyes trounced Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame en route to their historic championship victory.
Ohio State has never had a problem dominating on the offensive line. They’ve routinely had some of the best players in the sport on the line, and have sent players to the NFL in abundance over the years. Paris Johnson is a recent example of Ohio State and their success in the pros.
The Buckeyes will be out to win again in 2025. And, most importantly now, beat Michigan for the first time since 2019.
We’ll see if Tyler Bowen has a hand in that success.
