The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a massive three-team trade over the weekend that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks and star forward Luca Doncic to Los Angeles.
And it sounds like LeBron James found out about the trade around the same time as everyone else.
Just after midnight Eastern, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke he news of the blockbuster trade on social media.
“The Dallas Mavericks are trading Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Three-team deal that includes Utah,” Charania said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
While James is typically quite involved in the Lakers’ decision-making process, it sounds like he was actually quite caught off guard by this decision from the team.
According to a report from Dave McMenamin of ESPN, LeBron JAmes was “surprised” by the news of the trade.
“LeBron James learned of the Davis-Doncic trade after the Knicks game when it broke while he was out to dinner with his family, sources close to James told ESPN. James was surprised by the news, is processing it and had no idea it was in the works, sources said,” McMenamin said on X.
It will certainly be interesting to see how James and Doncic will be able to perform together this season and beyond.
