The Los Angeles Rams saw their season end at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. But perhaps even more worrying, the organization may be losing one of the players who was once regarding as a true building block for their future.

Former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp didn’t have the season that most expected of him this season due to both injuries that held him out and a lack of production down the stretch of the year.

Kupp has two years remaining on his contract. But with his lack of production, it seems at least somewhat possible that the Rams could use their opt out clause of his contract this offseason and eat the dead salary that goes along with releasing him.

On Monday, Kupp addressed this realization and spoke about his future as he concludes his eighth season in the NFL, detailing how a return to Los Angeles is “out of his control”.

“Who knows what’s going to happen?” Kupp said to Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “That’s out of my control. And we will see what it’s going to be. I don’t have any clarity on what that’s going to look like or anything like that. So yeah, obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don’t know what that’s going to look like.”

Kupp did say that he has “no doubt” that he will be playing in the NFL next season. So whether it is in Los Angeles or elsewhere, he will continuing pursuing an NFL career.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me,” Kupp added when asked about his future during the team’s final open locker room session of the season on Monday. “I’ll be playing football next year. That much I know.”

Naturally, fans were quite happy to hear that Kupp will be returning to play next season whether it be in Los Angeles or elsewhere.

“Kupp to Broncos… 10 mil a year. Let’s goooo,” one Broncos fan wrote on X.

“Just 2-3 years ago he was the best WR in football remember?” another fan wrote.

If Kupp can return back to his elite form, it would absolutely make sense for the Rams to keep Kupp around. But at the age of 31, maybe the Rams just find it easier to cut ties with him before he production perhaps slips even further.

Either way, Kupp should continue to be a fixture in the NFL for years to come.
