Los Angeles County has been devastated by wildfires the past several weeks which have caused extensive damage and claimed the lives of at least 27 people. As the city looks to rebuild, move forward, and prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games, it sounds like California Gov. Gavin Newsom is planning to work with Donald Trump to make that happen.
Los Angeles is set to host the Olympics in 2028, but the wildfires have presented a bit of a challenge as the city tries to prepare to host the Olympics with the complete devastation they caused to many areas of the city and county. But it sounds like Gavin Newsom and Donald Trump are set to work together to make it happen.
In some recent comments, Newsom – a staunch Democrat – did not hold back in giving Donald Trump praise for bringing the Olympics to Los Angeles and said that it is now Trump’s time “to shine” as he helps rebuild California toward that goal.
“President Donald Trump was helpful in getting the Olympics to the United States of America — to get it down here in LA. We thank him for that. This is an opportunity for him to shine, for this country to shine, for California and this community to shine,” Newsom said according to Fox News.
“That’s why we’re already organizing a Marshall plan. We already have a team looking, reimagining LA 2.0, and we’re making sure everyone’s included.”
While the wildfires did add a challenge to the preparation, LA2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman is confident the city can bounce back.
“Los Angeles is defined by its resilience and determination,” Wasserman said. “The strength of our communities and our unity in tough times make this city extraordinary, and when Los Angeles welcomes the world in 2028, our spirit will shine brighter than ever before.”
We’ll have to see how the city rebuilds and bounces back from one of the worst disasters in its history.
