The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy officially ended their business relationship on Monday, in what was a major shakeup to the league’s coaching landscape.
The Cowboys went 7-10 and missed the playoffs after having their entire season derailed by injuries. Many believe that McCarthy can’t be blamed for the failures of the season and that the former Super Bowl champion head coach can still coach at an elite level, turning him into a target for some organizations.
One of those organizations is the New Orleans Saints, and according to one prominent league insider, there is mutual interest.
“Members of (Cowboys) coach Mike McCarthy’s staff have now been informed that the two sides are separating and his contract will expire. McCarthy is free to speak with other teams — (Saints) and (Bears) are at the top of the list,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Monday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“No, keep him out of New Orleans. Joe Brady for us or bust. Even tho we’re currently bust,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Go get him Saints!” another fan added.
“The only coach since parcells that instantly brings credibility and winning experience,” one fan said of McCarthy’s status and reputation.
It’ll be interesting to see if McCarthy lands in New Orleans.
