The Cincinnati Bengals raised eyebrows when they announced that receiver Jermaine Burton would not be traveling with the team to their final game of the season, a must-win contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bengals did not provide further context on the decision other than saying it was a coach’s decision.
Now, some news has come to light on an event that happened on December 30th, only days before game.
“The (Enquier) has obtained records of a call from a 19-year old woman accusing (Bengals) WR Jermaine Burton of assault. She declined to press charges and none were filed,” reported the Cincinnati Enqiuer’s Kelsey Conway on Twitter on Wednesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Inexcusable, narcissistic, sociopathic behavior. The signs have been there all along. This is awful,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’ve preached patience with this kid time and time again, but it’s now time to move on. The Bengals have been down this particular road too many times and now have much greater aspirations as a team. Time to admit failure in this case and move on,” one fan added.
“Also a reminder that Jermaine Burton assaulted a female Tennessee fan during a field storming in college. Bengals cannot plead ignorance on these problems. Well deserved disaster selection,” another fan added.
“Yeah I wouldn’t be mad if the Bengals cut Burton after this. I know he’s young but he has already shown a severe lack of judgment. He cannot be trusted on or off the field. Get this dude off my team,” added someone else.
Hopefully, the caller is safe now.
