The Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns are gearing up to clash in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday evening, one of the College Football Playoff semifinals. However, it sounds like there is a chance that the game could be postponed as a result of some incoming inclement weather.
The Dallas area is forecasted to experience temperatures in the 30s on Thursday, accompanied by a wintry mix and an 83 percent chance of precipitation. Conditions are expected to worsen on Friday, the day of the game.
On Friday, temperatures could dip as low as 25 degrees, with strong winds and morning snow. Some forecasts even suggest the possibility of up to 12 inches of snow in the region.
Although the game itself will take place indoors, protected by AT&T Stadium’s covered roof, the severe weather may complicate travel plans for fans, teams, and others involved in the event.
For now, the game appears to be proceeding as scheduled. However, it sounds like the Cotton Bowl is preparing for other possibilities.
On Tuesday, Cotton Bowl officials issued a statement confirming the current schedule while emphasizing that they are “monitoring” the weather and “have plans for inclement weather.”
“We are routinely monitoring weather reports and we are in close contact with AT&T Stadium and local officials. We always have plans for inclement weather. Should conditions warrant it, we will communicate to everyone attending and connected with this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic,” the statement read, per Fox 4.
The game is currently slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas. It remains to be seen whether the weather will necessitate any changes to that plan.
If the game is forced to be postponed, it would mark the second College Football Playoff game this year that has been postponed after the Sugar Bowl was postponed as a result of a terrorist attack.
