The New England Patriots surprised a lot of people when they fired first-year head coach Jerod Mayo after only one season at the helm. Many felt that the move was done prematurely, and thought that the Patriots were in a rebuilding phase that no coach could have salvaged a great season out of.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft appears to regret how the situation has unfolded himself. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter Kraft said that the firing was “the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make.”
In a clip that is making the rounds on social media, Kraft admits that he put Mayo in an “untenable situation.”

However, Kraft isn’t the only member of the Patriots organization who is speaking on the ugly situation. Star cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who figures to be a centerpiece of the Patriots team moving forward, spoke with reporters about his feelings on the situation.
“I love Jerod, I love playing for him. But y’all know, none of us have no say on that,” Gonzalez said in a clip where he is addressing the media.
“We gotta just cherish the moments we had with him.”

It’ll be interesting to see who the Patriots select to replace Mayo and to see whether or not Mayo falls on his feet with another job around the league.
Hopefully, the move ends up working out for all parties involved.
