Kelly Slater clinched an unprecedented 11th ASP World Title today in the waters of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach. Slater, who is 39, is the first surfer to achieve 11 ASP World Titles, an accomplishment spanning two decades of an astounding career during which he has dominated competitive surfing as both the youngest and oldest ASP World Champion. This begs the question, has anyone else ever dominated one sport for such an extended period of time? There are plenty who have been kings within their realm: Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry Rice, Muhammed Ali, Wayne Gretzky or Lance Armstrong. But, has anyone dominated a sport for over a decade in such dominant fashion.
