The Pittsburgh Steelers may have lost to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, but Steelers wide receiver George Pickens still does not think the Browns are a very good team.
The Steelers and Browns played the second half of the game in a snowstorm that made it difficult for both teams to move the ball reliably.
During his postgame interview, George Pickens made it clear that he thinks the inclement weather was the reason why the Browns were able to pull off the 24-19 victory over the Steelers.
“The conditions were so bad,” Pickens said according to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now. “I don’t even think the QB could see sometimes. When you’ve got conditions like that at the opponent’s home field, it kinda plays in their favor.”
Pickens went as far as to say that he does not believe the Browns are a good football team “at all,” but that they only won because of the weather conditions.
“The conditions played a huge, huge part in today’s game. I don’t really think the Cleveland Browns are a good team at all. I think the conditions kinda saved them today,” Pickens said.
Pickens said that the weather affects the quarterback more than it does the wide receivers.
“It’s not really such as a receiver, it’s when the Q doesn’t feel comfortable,” he said. “It’s really the conditions. That played a huge factor in today’s game.”
It’s worth noting that the conditions were perfectly clear for more than half the game, and the Steelers were actually losing by a score of 10-6 before the snowflakes began to really fall.
But Pickens had a different excuse, as well: the officiating.
“That’s what I’m saying,” he said. “The conditions and away game refs.”
This is the first of two matchups between the two teams this year. We’ll have to see if the Steelers can come out on top next time.
