San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey has not played a game yet this season as a result of bilateral Achilles tendinitis. But it sounds like the team is expecting to get him back very soon.
During an interview on Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the team is expecting Christian McCaffrey to return to practice next week to prepare to play in their Week 10 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“We hope it does go that way,” coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR on Tuesday according to 49ers Webzone.
“It’s been trending that way, and it’s been ever since we shut him down and gone through these real slow steps. It’s getting there.”
Shanahan said the star running back has not had any sort of setbacks throughout his recovery.
“He hasn’t had a setback, and hopefully, he has a real good week, and we can get him into practice next week, which obviously would be huge for us,” Shanahan said.
Last season, McCaffrey was one of the most consistent and dominant players in the entire league as a legitimate MVP candidate throughout the season.
McCaffrey was listed as questionable to start the season, but then missed the first eight games of the season as a result of his injury as the team placed him on the IR.
Needless to say, it would be a major boost to the team to have him back in the lineup for the second half of the season.
We’ll have to see whether or not McCaffrey will be able to return to the field against the Buccaneers.
