Freshman phenom Dylan Raiola and the Nebraska Cornhuskers traveled to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes this weekend, but he was not exactly pleased with the antics from the crowd late in the game.
During Nebraska’s final offensive possession of the game, the team was attempting to drive down the field for a would-be go-ahead touchdown when Nebraska receiver Jahmal Banks took a bit hit from Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese, jarring the ball loose for what appeared to be a fumble.
However, after review, Reese was flagged for targeting on the play for making contact with the receiver’s head or neck area. As a result, he was ejected from the game and Nebraska was given the ball back and an automatic first down.
Needless to say, Ohio State fans were not happy.
Many fans began throwing bottles, cans, and other trash on the field in protest of the call, resulting in a brief stoppage of play.
After the game, Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola called out Ohio State and their fans for this reaction, saying the action “disrespects football.”
“The bottles being thrown is just, I don’t know, it kind of feels like it disrespects football and the nature of it,” he said in a postgame press conference. “It happened and we had to get away from it.”
Outside of that incident though, Raiola did have some positive things to say about the environment at Ohio Stadium.
“But nah, it was loud. It was a cool environment. But we knew that coming in,” Raiola said.
Raiola was actually once committed to play for Ohio State before flipping his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs and then eventually signing with the Nebraska Cornhuskers instead.
