The New England Patriots are on a three-game losing streak, and it might be even tougher for the team to come by wins moving forward.
On Wednesday NFL insider Ari Meirov reported on Twitter that Patriots center David Andrews is dealing with a shoulder injury that requires surgery. Andrews is attempting to play through the surgery, but if he has to receive the surgery it would put him out for the season.

If Andrews isn’t able to finish out the year it’d be a massive loss for New England. The Patriots are sitting at 1-3 and their offense is already struggling to get going.
Many fans are calling for the team to turn to first-round draft pick Drake Maye at quarterback in place of veteran Jacoby Brissett, but it appears this injury could complicate that process as well.
Meirov followed up his initial report: “Losing David Andrews is the type of injury that might make the (Patriots) even more hesitant to put Drake Maye out there soon. Andrews is a vital part of the offensive line, and without him, protecting a young quarterback becomes much more challenging.”
It would be harmful and even dangerous for Maye to start his career behind a shaky offensive line, as an injury could set back his development for years.
Head coach Jerod Mayo has emphasized the team’s desire to stick with Brissett, but if the team’s struggles continue eventually they’ll be forced to turn to Maye. It’ll be an interesting situation to watch unfold.
The Patriots next game is against the Miami Dolphins.
