The Green Bay Packers are struggling mightily at one particularly important position so far this season: kicker.
As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, Packers kicker Brayden Narveson leads the NFL in missed field goals this season by quite a large margin – and he’s not just missing the long ones.
“Green Bay is the only team in the NFL with four missed field goals this season. Only one other team (the Ravens with Justin Tucker) has even missed three,” Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk.
“And it’s not like Narveson is missing field goals because LaFleur is sending him out there to attempt 60-yarders. On Sunday against the Vikings he missed a 37-yard attempt, the shortest missed field goal in the NFL so far this season. His other missed field goals have been from 49, 45 and 43 yards; he’s the only kicker in the NFL who has missed three field goals in the 40-to-49-yard range. He has not attempted a field goal of 50 yards or longer.”
Needless to say, it’s pretty horrible news that the Packers cannot seem to rely on their kicker, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“They had a good kicker and chose to cut him,” one fan responded.
“This is soooo frustrating. They were ‘patient’ with Carlson too,” another fan said.
“It baffles me how we cannot find a competent kicker…” another fan said.
“I really wish they would just trade a fourth round pick or whatever it would cost for one of the elite kickers and just forget about it,” another fan said.
“I was happy when they moved on from Carlson, now thinking that was a mistake,” a fan added.
We’ll have to see whether or not Narveson can improve this season.
