Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has not had stellar individual stats this season, but it sounds like quarterback Patrick Mahomes is quite pleased with the attitude his teammate has despite the lackluster stats.
During a press conference this week, Patrick Mahomes did not hold back his true thoughts on Travis Kelce as he explained that the star tight end has never been selfish about collecting personal stats.
Kelce just wants to do whatever he can to help the team win, and Mahomes appreciates that
“I mean, what’s been great for me in my career is that he wants to make an impact in the game and he wants to make plays, but he wants to win at the end of the day,” Mahomes said according to Pro Football Talk. “If we’re winning, he’s good with just going out there and playing hard, blocking, doing whatever he can to impact the game.
“Whenever we‘re winning games like this, that’s everybody, man. You just want to win at the end of the day. He’s doing a great job of being a leader on the team, playing hard, doing whatever he can to make an impact in the game. When you do that in this league, usually good things come and I’m excited for him to go out there and make an impact receiving the ball as well.”
So far this season, Kelce has just eight catches for 69 yards in two games – far below the numbers he typically puts up in his career.
However, despite his poor individual stats, the Kansas City Chiefs do have a 3-0 record to open the season, and it sounds like that’s all Kelce cares about.
Still, it will be interesting to see if he can start putting up some more impressive numbers this season.
