The Detroit Lions are off to a promising start at 2-1, but the uphill climb to the NFC championship game just got a lot steeper.

According to league insider, Ian Rapoport, Lions pass-rusher Marcus Davenport suffered a serious elbow injury in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that the injury was season-ending, a brutal development for a team with high aspirations.

The Lions are still in the thick of a race for an NFC North title this season, but this is a devastating loss for a defense that has looked shaky at times already. Fans took to social media to sound off on the loss.

“Hate to see it. More and more bad injuries every year,” one fan said on Twitter.

“Brutal for the lions checkbook that’s for sure,” another said.

“Prayers to Marcus Davenport(…) Okay, finally we’ve found someone to take Haason Reddick(…) We just need a 3rd,” a New York Jets fan said, hoping the Lions would be desperate enough to trade for the Jets’ malcontent.

“Not gonna lie, we hoped he was not injury prone, but yeah, he gone….sigh,” a Lions fan said.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Lions respond to this situation. The front office, coaching staff, and players have made it clear that they are in win-now mode, which means they’ll likey need to make a move to plug this hole.
