The Kansas City Chiefs may be the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, but Cincinnati Bengals superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase still seems to think that the Bengals are actually the top team in the AFC.
As Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals prepare for their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, he made it quite clear that he thinks the Bengals are the top team in the conference.
“Everybody knows that, bro,” Chase said Thursday according to Ben Baby of ESPN. “It’s not ‘if.’ We are the team to beat in the AFC. And we know it. And we gotta play like it, too.”
The Bengals and Chiefs have formed a pretty strong rivalry over the past four seasons with each of them getting some high-profile wins. And Chase had a pretty brutal message for the Chiefs heading into the game.
“The energy’s there [on] both sides,” Chase said. “I’m sure they know we don’t like them. They know they don’t like us. So the energy’s already there. There’s not really much we got to say now to this point. It’s been four years now, so everyone gets it.”
The Chiefs got the win last year in a Week 16 showdown that eliminated the Bengals from playoff contention. We’ll have to see who comes out victorious this year.
