As the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for the upcoming NFL season with Super Bowl aspirations, they’re in a pretty uncomfortable situation regarding one of their star players as wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is not pleased with his contract putting his status for the season in a state of flux. And it doesn’t sound like those negotiations are necessarily going well.
This week, NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk cited an anonymous source who described the situation as a “fight” between Ja’Marr Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals as he seeks a new contract before the start of the season.
“As one source with knowledge of the situation told PFT, it’s currently a fight between Chase and the Bengals to get something done,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk on Thursday.
Chase has not participated offseason workouts, training camp, or preseason practices and games as a result of his push for a new deal. He did return to practice on Wednesday as the team prepares for its season-opening showdown with the New England Patriots, but he was still limited, putting his status for Sunday’s game in question.
Throughout his first three seasons in the league, Chase has established himself as one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL. Now, he wants to be paid like one.
