Thursday night’s NFL season opener is a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs which the Chiefs ultimately won 17-10, setting them up to eventually defeat the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl. But Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson seems to think the game would have gone differently if he was healthy.
The Ravens’ most recent playoff failure had many questioning if Ravens’ quarterback and two-time MVP, Lamar Jackson, has what it takes to succeed late into the postseason. But Jackson has responded to that criticism this week as he made it clear that he thinks if his legs had been in better health going into the game, Baltimore would’ve been competing for the Super Bowl.
In an interview this summer, Jackson spoke on his current bill of health and had a pretty bold claim about how last year’s game would have gone if he was fully healthy, seemingly blaming the loss on his injuries.
“I wish I was feeling like this, body-wise, in the AFC Championship. We would have won the game. I would have been able to move around for my guys,” Jackson said according to the Washington Post. “With me just hurting and can’t move, I know if my legs were good, we would have won that [game]. We wouldn’t have even had to throw the ball. [Forget] throwing the ball.”
Those are some bold words from Jackson.
