Around this time last season, quarterback Kyle McCord was beginning the season as the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. On Saturday, however, he started his first game with the Syracuse Orange after leaving Ohio State following the season. But even though he’s with a new team this year, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t look back fondly at his time with the Buckeyes.
During ACC Media Days leading up to the season, Kyle McCord had a pretty clear message to Ohio State as he made it clear that even though it was ultimately best for him to leave Columbus, he was still grateful for his time with the Buckeyes.
“Truly grateful for my three years at Ohio State,” McCord according to On3. “I got to sit behind CJ (Stroud) for two years, learned a lot from him. Then I had the opportunity to start there last year.”
But it’s pretty clear that Syracuse is happy to have him.
Following McCord’s debut with the team on Saturday, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown joked that he might have to send Ohio State head coach Ryan Day a gift for allowing McCord to leave.
“Kyle’s a good football player, you’ve seen it right there. I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne for allowing us to get Kyle McCord,” Brown said according to On3
