After suffering a concussion in practice earlier this month, Cleveland Browns star cornerback Denzel Ward has now suffered five documented concussions since he entered the NFL in 2018. It’s a concerning number of brain injuries, but Ward himself does not seem to be all that worried about it.

Denzel Ward returned to practice this week after missing a couple of weeks while in concussion protocol once again. He has indicated that he has never thought about retiring due to brain trauma and said he is not all that worried about the concussions he has sustained throughout his career.

“I’m not too concerned about it,” Ward said according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. “People worry about the number I’ve had, but I can’t let that affect me. I feel good. I’m excited for the season. I’m a football player, and I’m doing what I’ve loved to do since I was a little kid. I don’t think about getting hurt when I go out there. It’s not too hard for me to put it behind me.”

Ward revealed that he did go to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with members of his family in hopes of “easing their minds” about his decision to continue playing and he updated his helmet to a new model in hopes of protecting himself better. But it’s clear he has no intentions of retiring anytime soon.
