The Dallas Cowboys appear set to allow star quarterback Dak Prescott to play out the final year of his contract without signing him to a contract extension. However, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has indicated that this decision isn’t really related to how Dak Prescott performed in the role.
During a recent press conference, Jerry Jones indicated that the decision not to sign Dak Prescott to a contract extension yet “has more to do with our situation” than whether or not Prescott has earned a new contract with the team.
“You could easily say, if you haven’t seen it by now, you haven’t seen it,” Jones said. “I’m such a fan of Dak. And I appreciate all of the great things that we all know are there. And I appreciate his work ethic probably more than anything. I can’t tell you how proud I am that we’ve got him this year to start this campaign. . . . Dak’s situation, right now for me, has more to do with our situation than it does with the merits of Dak Prescott being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.”
If Prescott and the Cowboys do not come to terms on a new deal, Prescott will become an unrestricted free agent following the season.
