This week, an Australian women’s soccer club that includes several transgender players finished its season undefeated, capping off the unbeaten season with a win over West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook FC in the championship game. But the club had a pretty classy response to the loss.
Fox News reports that Flying Bats FC – an LGBTQ-affirming soccer club that includes as many as five transgender women on its roster – won all of its matches during the season and scored 65 goals while only allowing four. However, the championship game was much closer than any of their previous games as Flying Bats FC won by a score of 5-4.
After the match, West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook FC posted a classy message on social media.
“Our Premier (League Women’s) team have left everything on Christie Park this afternoon losing 5-4 in heartbreaking fashion to the Flying Bats. You embodied everything it means to play for our club over an amazing 90 mins of football. We could not be prouder of you girls,” the club wrote on Facebook.
Flying Bats FC also made headlines earlier this season as well when it won the preseason Beryl Ackroyd Cup and was given a $1,000 prize as a result of the championship.
