With starter Kirk Cousins and first-round rookie Michael Penix Jr. on the roster, the Atlanta Falcons have a pretty significant decision to make regarding the future of veteran Taylor Heinicke.
Taylor Heinicke has a lot of experience as a starter, even taking over as the team’s first-team quarterback midway through the season last year when Desmond Ridder was benched, but he now faces an uncertain future as the Falcons decide whether to carry three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster or cut him loose.
“I would love to be a part of the Falcons,” Heinicke said after the Falcons’ final preseason game Friday according to Terrin Waack of the Atlanta Falcons team website. “I think this is probably the best roster I’ve been a part of when you look at it from top to bottom. I think [head coach Raheem Morris] is building something special here, and I would love to be a part of it.”
Obviously, this is a difficult time for players across the league as they learn their fates, and Heinicke is one of those players.
“It’s one of the most stressful times,” Heinicke said. “It’s really the worst time of the NFL for all these guys, just kind of not knowing where you’re going to be.”
