The Ohio State Buckeyes brought in a new quarterback this offseason, signing former Kansas State Wildcats starter Will Howard to presumably take over for previous starter Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse this offseason. But it doesn’t sound like he’s won over everyone on the team just yet.
During a press conference at Big Ten Media Days last week, Ohio State Buckeyes star cornerback Denzel Burke got brutally honest about the new quarterback as he made it clear that Will Howard has not won him over just yet.
Burke called out Howard, saying he still needs to see more before he gives an endorsement.
“I’ve definitely got to see a lot more, definitely going against this defense we’re in,” Burke said according to Eleven Warriors. “I saw a little bit of flashes towards the end, a little something new, but fall camp is really going to test him. They’re going against the best defense in the country, so we just plan on getting him better and hoping for the best, man. The sky’s the limit.”
However, Burke has been impressed with Howard’s leadership in the locker room.
“When you’re in the weight room, you kind of get a little taste of what guys are like, who they really are in the weight room, and I’ve seen flashes of him being a dog and being a leader, and that’s going to correlate to the field,” Burke said. “And just being able to see that and the moments we have together as a team and just seeing how he moves around, how he acts, I’m really excited.”
We’ll have to see whether or not Howard can earn his approval this preseason.
