The opening ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympic games included a controversial portion that saw drag queens and other performers appearing to parody the Leonardo da Vinci painting “The Last Supper,” a Reinassance art piece that depicts Jesus sharing a final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. And Donald Trump was not happy about it.
During an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News on Monday, Donald Trump expressed his displeasure at the controversial portion of the opening ceremony, calling it “a disgrace.”
“I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace, actually,” Trump said on the show according to the New York Post. “I thought it was a disgrace.”
Trump made it clear that when the United States hosts the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in four years, there will not be anything like that.
“We won’t be having a Last Supper as portrayed the way they portrayed it the other night,” he said.
“I mean, they can do certain things. I thought it was terrible. Look, I’m for everybody. I’m very open-minded… but I thought what they did was a disgrace.”
It’s worth noting that while Trump seems to believe the portion of the opening ceremony to be a parody of The Last Supper, it is actually a nod to the Festival of Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, wine and revelry.
