Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has never been one to shy away from sharing his blunt opinions on any topic under the sun.
Trump continued that trend on Monday night during an appearance on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, when he shared his opinion on the controversial opening ceremony to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
“I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace, actually,” Trump said.
The opening ceremony featured a skit that included drag queens and a transgender actor that many Christians, including the Catholic Church, perceived as mocking “The Last Supper.”
A spokesperson for the Olympic Games has since apologized, saying that the goal of the ceremony was about community inclusion—a goal that organizes felt the ceremony encased.
According to multiple media reports, “Clearly, there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. (The opening ceremony) tried to celebrate community tolerance,” Anne Deschamps told reporters.
“We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense, we are really sorry.”
Thomas Jolly, the director of the opening ceremony, revealed to French television that the opening ceremony didn’t riff on “The Last Supper” but was actually about Dionysus, the Greek God of wine.
“It’s not my inspiration,” he said. “There is Dionysus who arrives on this table. He is there because he is the God of celebration in Greek mythology. The god of wine who is one of the jewels of France. And the father of Sequana, the goddess who is connected to the river, the Seine. The idea was to have a pagan celebration connected to the gods of Olympus.”
