When the New England Patriots signed veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett during the offseason, most fans saw it as a bit of an insurance policy in case the team’s rookie quarterback was not ready to play immediately. But it doesn’t sound like he sees it that way.
During a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Jacoby Brissett made it clear that he expects to be the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots as long as he is with the team – he isn’t just an insurance policy in case rookie quarterback Drake Maye isn’t ready.
“Two things can be true: Like I can be perfect for the situation, but I’m the perfect guy to start, too,” Brissett said on the show according to Pro Football Talk. “Don’t take that away from me either. I fully expect myself to be the starter as long as I am here. Whatever happens outside of that, that has nothing to do with me. That doesn’t mean I little myself for somebody else. That just means like hey, I’m not too big for a situation to where I can go out there and perform but also go out there and help my teammates and help lead this team.”
Brissett has been taking the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense and is currently ahead of Maye on the depth chart, but the team has not officially named a starting quarterback yet.
