Last year, the Michigan Wolverines were struck with allegations of a widespread illegal sign-stealing scandal centered around support staff member Connor Stalions who has since been fired. Since then, the NCAA has been conducting an investigation, and it sounds like Michigan could be facing a postseason ban as punishment.
According to a report from Michigan Wolverines football insider Chris Balas of The Wolverine in the On3 network, the NCAA is set to deliver a Notice of Allegations to Michigan “as early as this week.” According to the report, Michigan expected to be hit with Level I violations for the off-campus, in-person scouting operation that was led by Connor Stalions.
The report states that the NCAA could seek to punish Michigan by banning the team from the postseason for one or two years. Balas reports that if this is indeed the case, Michigan would fight the punishment and it’s unlikely the ban would be in place for the upcoming college football season as the case would not be heard by the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions until 2025.
Additionally, the report indicates that Michigan’s national championship and wins from the last three seasons are not expected to be vacated by the NCAA.
