While the elite athletes will obviously get the majority of the headlines at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, another wild story seems to have flown a bit under the radar as authorities have arrested an alleged Russian spy was purportedly planning to cause chaos at the Olympics this year.
According to a report from TMZ Sports, 40-year-old Kirill Gryaznov was arrested by French authorities after he was discovered when he drunkenly bragged about his plan to cause chaos at the Paris Olympics.
“He then made a terrible mistake, drunkenly and openly talking to his friends about the French having an Opening Ceremony ‘like no other’ only a few months before the Olympic games in Paris, according to Le Monde,” TMZ Sports reported.
“Gryaznov also allegedly pulled out his ID proving he was an intelligence officer and even boasted to neighbors about his plan to wreak havoc at the Olympics.”
As a result, European intel officers kept a close eye on him before authorities ultimately raided his apartment where they found “diplomatic material” and evidence of a “large-scale project” to destabilize France during the Olympics.
Needless to say, this is a pretty big win for France over Russia in the Olympics – and it had nothing to do with sports.
