The Kansas City Chiefs will rely on tight end Travis Kelce if they’re to repeat as Super Bowl champions in February.
Kelce turns 35 in October and has spent the summer following his girlfriend, pop icon Taylor Swift, on tour around the world.
Speaking after a training camp practice at Missouri Western State University this weekend, Kelce admitted that last season took a toll on his body.
“Last year was pretty taxing on my body,” Kelce said. “I’ve had more snaps than a lot of guys if not everybody in the NFL over the past five, six years, and I’m very prideful of that, but I know it has taken a toll on my body.
“So it’s just making sure that my body’s getting that rest and that ability to train harder and be able to withstand an entire 17-to-20-game season.”
The Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in franchise history under head coach Andy Reid this past season. The Chiefs will be hoping that Kelce has at least one more highly productive season in the tank.
The Chiefs open their 2024 campaign at home against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5.
NBC will broadcast the game, which kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET.
Oddsmakers currently list the Chiefs as three-point favorites entering the contest.
