The Baltimore Ravens began training camp this week, but reigning MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson was not with the team on Sunday.

The team announced on social media that Lamar Jackson had been “sent home” from the team’s training camp on Sunday with an undisclosed illness.

“QB Lamar Jackson is not practicing today and has been sent home with an illness,” the Baltimore Ravens official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

It’s not clear exactly what the extent of Jackson’s illness is and how long he will be unavailable from training camp as the team did not give any details on his condition.

With Jackson unavailable for the team on Sunday, veteran quarterback Josh Johnson served as the quarterback for the first-string offense today. Behind Johnson on the depth chart is rookie Devin Leary, who was just selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, as well as undrafted free agent Emory Jones.

Obviously, Jackson is the team’s most important player – he’s the reigning MVP, after all – and the team will undoubtedly want to make sure he is available as they prepare for the upcoming season.
