NFL coaching legend Bill Belichick will watch this upcoming season like the rest of us. But he doesn’t plan to stay out of the game for long, according to a new report from NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero.
On Thursday, Pelissero filled in on The Rich Eisen Show and revealed that Belichick will put his media career on hold to return to coaching in 2025.
“Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025,” Pelissero said. “He’s staying engaged in the game. He’s showing up to roasts. He’s now going to be on ‘Inside the NFL.’ We’ve seen him showing up to different events.
Despite the new, softer Belichick, Pelissero was adamant that the former New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns coach wants back in the game.
“He’s fully invested in he wants to coach again.”
Pelissero said that Belichick has one goal in mind when he returns to the sidelines.
“He wants to pursue the all-time wins record. Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick,” Pelissero said.
Belichick is currently 27 wins short of that record, held by his fellow legendary coach Don Shula.
Belichick was reportedly interested in the Atlanta Falcons vacancy earlier this offseason, but the franchise hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris for that role.
