Donald Trump evaded an assassination attempt last week in Pennsylvania.
Thomas Matthews Crooks, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man and a registered Republican voter, ambushed Trump during a campaign stop and came within inches of ending the presidential candidate’s life.
Many people have criticized the performance of the Secret Service before, during, and after the shooting. One such critic is former Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz.
Speaking with radio host Dan Dakich, Holtz blasted the Secret Service wondering how an amateur like Crooks came so close to ending a former president’s life.
“How […] did that happen?” Holtz said when Dakich asked about the shooting.
“There had to be some kind of [Secret Service[ mistake… Consider this – he was shot, and only by the Grace of God was he not killed, but do you know what kind of screw-up happened? Who’s running the asylum?!” Holtz asked.
Holtz, however, isn’t any sort of conspiracy theorist when it comes to the attempted assassination.
“If you were doing it intentionally, you couldn’t have screwed it up anymore in this world.
Trump did not immediately respond to Holtz’s comments. The Republican Party’s presidential candidate is currently in Milwaukee as part of the GOP’s national convention.
