The 2024 UFL College Draft took place on Wednesday, which has provided a number of undrafted rookie quarterbacks currently in the NFL with a backup plan should they fail to make an NFL roster.
A number of standout collegiate quarterbacks who didn’t get to hear their names called in the 2024 NFL Draft got a bit of redemption in the UFL Draft.
This list includes Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartmann, UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, BYU quarterback Kedon Slovis, Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai, Kansas quarterback Jason Bean, Northern Illinois quarterback Rocky Lombardi, and San Jose State quarterback Chevan Cordeiro. Of that list, only Cordeiro is not currently on an NFL roster.
All seven of the players listed above were not drafted by NFL teams, but did receive a contract from NFL teams.
Obviously, the NFL will be the first choice for these quarterbacks. But chances are, a number of these players will likely not survive the cut to a 53-man roster.
Many of them will likely need to decide whether they want to pursue an NFL career by going the route of signing onto a practice squad. Or instead, attempt to impress NFL teams in the future by playing in the UFL.
We have seen plenty of players go the UFL route and then make it back to the NFL one day. But regardless, it is nice for these quarterbacks to know that one way or another, they will be able to pursue football at the professional level.
