Cade Cunningham made headlines on Tuesday in a big way. The Detroit Pistons star signed his max rookie extension, making him a very highly paid man. Cunningham signed a five-year, $244 million extension on Tuesday that could be worth even more.
ESPN reports that the contract’s value could soar to $269 million.
ESPN broke the details of the new contract for Cunningham on Tuesday afternoon. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported the details.

In 138 career games, Cunningham’s averaged 20.0 points, 6.5 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the floor. Last season, in 62 games, Cunningham averaged 22.7 points and 7.5 assists per game. He averaged 4.3 rebounds per game and shot 44.9 percent from the floor, a career-high. The Pistons have been downright awful in the past few seasons, but Cunningham has had little to do with their ineptitude. Given the extension they offered him, the team also clearly sees him as a solution.
After the news broke, the NBA world had much to say about Cunningham’s new contract.
Basketball/Pistons analysis later.
Incredibly happy for Cade and his team. Most deserving group out there. Incredible people and extremely hard workers. I have absolutely zero doubts Cade will be worth every bit of this and more. He’s incredibly driven and he’s got the right… https://t.co/wBnD7Nfo9G

He got the bag, coach, and a young cast now it’s time to win some games because they were embarrassingly bad. https://t.co/JRMEBw9Rj6

Cade Cunningham’s contract, obviously, is the biggest in franchise history.
The franchise centerpiece had a really good season despite the team’s record. Should only get better given the added spacing around him this summer.

Trajan Langdon has accomplished all priorities so far in his first offseason. Locking in a long term agreement with Cade Cunningham was a must 👍🏾 #Pistons pic.twitter.com/qL69u3LPap
