Joe Burrow spent the first three seasons of his college football career with the Ohio State Buckeyes and received his degree before transferring to LSU where he led the team to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy. And it’s now pretty clear which fans he thinks can “claim” him as their own.
During a recent appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast, Joe Burrow had a pretty clear message to the Ohio State fans who still claim him as a Buckeye. Burrow admitted the brutal truth that while he did attend Ohio State and receive his degree, he “didn’t play football there.”
“I didn’t play football there. I mean, I practiced football there…Did a lot of practicing and lifting. I graduated,” Burrow said of his time at OSU. “I usually tell people that I went to school at Ohio State and played football at LSU. I got a lot better from practicing at Ohio State but I didn’t get to play so I don’t really say that I played there. I got to live the backup quarterback lifestyle back then and that was fun. Got that out of my system and then was able to lock in.”
This might not be what Ohio State fans want to hear, but the reality is that all of Burrow’s accomplishments on the field came at LSU, so it makes sense that he thinks that his football legacy is as a Tiger.
