The Fourth of July is traditionally celebrated with fireworks displays across the country, both professional and amateur. But it doesn’t sound like former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is a big fan of them.
During the most recent episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason revealed that he is “terrified” of fireworks and does not like them to be lit near him.
“Growing up, Ed and Donna, that was a hard no,” Jason said according to Parade. “I’m not going to lie. I do not like lighting any of those things anywhere in my vicinity. I am out on the fireworks…I’m terrified of them.”
It sounds like quite an anti-American opinion, given just how pivotal fireworks are to celebrating the Fourth of July. But as it turns out, there’s probably a pretty good reason for this as Travis Kelce shared a rather unfortunate story involving a family member’s friend.
“I think Dad and Aunt Judy knew someone at a young age that blew off their hand or something like that,” Travis added.
Fireworks obviously can be dangerous, so it makes sense to have a healthy amount of respect for them. But at the same time, there is nothing more American than lighting a firework to celebrate our nation’s independence – and Jason Kelce is missing out on that.
