The Golden State Warriors made a splash on the Fourth of July. They agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers and acquired sharpshooter Buddy Hield in doing so.
Ace NBA reporter Shams Charania broke the news on Thursday afternoon with the details.
Charania posted “The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a deal acquiring Buddy Hield via sign-and-trade from the 76ers.” Charania made the post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Hield joins Golden State after what’s been a successful pro career. Hield gained notoriety and fame in college at Oklahoma. He won the National Player of the Year Award in 2016 and led OU to the Final Four. The New Orleans Pelicans drafted Hield in 2017 and he succeeded right away. But he wasn’t a Pelican for very long, as New Orleans traded him to the Sacramento Kings in February 2017.
Hield played with the Kings until 2022, when he joined the Indiana Pacers. This past season, he joined the Pacers as part of a three-team trade that involved the San Antonio Spurs.
Golden State lost the great Klay Thompson this offseason, opting not to bring the four-time NBA champion and one half of the Splash Bros back. Hield will all but replace Thompson’s presence in the Warrior lineup.
