This offseason, superstar running back Saquon Barkley decided to leave the New York Giants – where he has played his entire career up to this point – to sign with the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles. But it doesn’t sound like former teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux supports his decision.
During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show last week, Kayvon Thibodeaux made it clear that he has no ill will toward Saquon Barkley as he understands the business side of his decision, saying “You’ve got to get paid when you can.”
“It’s a business at the end of the day, I never really took it hard,” Thibodeaux said according to Pro Football Talk. “I reached out to him. This is a not-for-long league, so you’ve got to get paid when you can. And you can’t miss out on any dollars. We’ve seen it before with past contracts and past players, so I am happy he was able to get the contract he was seeking.”
Obviously, the fact that he ultimately signed with a division rival adds a little bit more controversy to his decision to leave the Giants, but it sounds like his former teammates understand why he made the choice that he made.
