The Texas A&M aggies lost more than the Men’s College World Series on Monday night. On Tuesday, news emerged that their baseball coach has also left town. To make matters worse, he’s going to a familiar place that’s not friendly to Aggies fans. The Texa Longhorns will hire Jim Schlossnagle to be their next baseball coach. After rumors swirled over the past few days that this would happen, it’s now a reality.

Texas reporter Chip Brown reported the news on Tuesday.

“Jim Schlossnagle is leaving College Station to become the new baseball coach of the Texas Longhorns,” Brown said on X.

Scholossnagle had gained fame in the state of Texas, but not with the Longhorns or even the Aggies. He served as the head coach for the TCU Horned Frogs baseball team from 2004 to 2021. He made nine consecutive trips to the NCAA Baseball Tournament with the Horned Frogs from 2004 to 2012, and then four consecutive trips to the College World Series from 2014 to 2017. The Aggies reached the College World Series two times in the last three years, including their runner-up finish in 2024.

Schlossnagle has coached baseball since 2002 and has worked as an assistant since the 1990s. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been. But there is, unsurprisingly, some hard feelings over this. That likely will remain true for a while.
