The New York Yankees will acquire third baseman J.D. Davis in a trade with the Oakland Athletics.

On Sunday, the Yankees announced that they sent infielder Jordan Groshans, a former top prospect with the Toronto Blue Jays, to Oakland in exchange for the veteran third baseman Davis.

The Yankees’ PR X account made the news official.

New York owns the best record in Major League Baseball. They are 52-27 entering Sunday and hold a 1.5-game lead over the second-place Baltimore Orioles. The Philadelphia Phillies have 51 wins, neck and neck with the Yanks, over in the National League.

New York likely isn’t done making moves ahead of next month’s MLB Trade Deadline. The Yankees might own the league’s best record, but holes still appear from time to time. In their quest for title #28, they may have to be a bit more aggressive this time around. It’s clear they have a lot of good going for them. It will be all about how they finish.

Davis is hitting .236 with a .670 OPS this season.
