Throughout his first three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons has emerged as one of the most versatile and dominant defensive players in the league. But as he nears the end of his rookie contract, his future with the team is a little bit in flux. And one prominent NFL insider went as far as to ponder that the team could elect to trade him in the near future.
During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, league insider Mike Garafolo of NFL Media was asked if there is a story that might be flying under the radar that he is “keeping an eye on.” Garafolo couldn’t think of anything at first, but then he offered some pretty shocking speculation that Micah Parsons could ultimately be traded by the Dallas Cowboys.
“Maybe Micah Parsons? Maybe,” Garafolo said. “Could it result in some sort of a trade? You know, I’ve heard people speculate. To me, that seems excessive and how can we get to that point.”
Garafolo said that situations involving Parsons have “always got that combustibility factor,” which contributes to this speculation.
Obviously, the Cowboys and Parsons are going to have to make some decisions regarding his future with the team in the near future as he has one year left on his rookie deal with the potential for a fifth-year option – which the Cowboys would almost certainly pick up. But his long-term status with the team isn’t immediately clear beyond that.
“What’s this resolution going to be? Is Micah Parsons going to be playing for a different team in the next year or two years – whatever? Is he going to sign a long-term extension?” Garafolo said.
Garafolo admitted that he has “no idea” what the future holds for Parsons and the Cowboys, but the fact that a prominent NFL insider is hearing that a trade is a possibility is certainly notable.
