Caitlin Clark Syndication: The Indianapolis Star

During Sunday afternoon’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark was fouled hard by Sky rookie star Angel Reese, who has become a rival of Clark in recent years. The play obviously sparked a lot of conversation on social media, and Clark’s teammates found themselves at the center of a lot of criticism.

The play happened toward the end of the third quarter when Caitlin Clark dribbled past Angel Reese and attempted a left-handed layup. But as Clark leaped toward the basket, Angel Reese took a swipe at the ball but accidentally hit Clark hard on the head instead, sending her flying to the floor. The play resulted in a flagrant 1 foul on Reese after review.

Though Clark was unharmed and her teammates quickly came to help her up, ESPN hockey analyst John Buccigross was not satisfied with this response from her teammates as he seemingly thought they should have come to her defense.

“Her ‘teammates’ are pathetic,” Buccigross said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

And Buccigross was not the only person who held this opinion as many others joined in with this criticism.

Obviously, the WNBA is different than hockey, but it’s clear that fans would have liked to see Clark’s teammates stand up for her a little bit more.
