The New York Yankees pitching staff have looked dominant thus far this season, sporting the best ERA in all of baseball. And if you didn’t think that pitching staff was good enough already, they will soon be adding reigning CY Young winner Gerrit Cole to the rotation, who has looked excellent recently in rehab starts at the minor league level.
Cole, a six-time All-Star, has not pitched yet this season as he continues to battle through elbow nerve inflammation that was discovered in Spring Training.
He has already pitched twice for the Yankees Double-A affiliate. But on Friday, he took the mound on Friday for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, the highest level of minor league baseball that there is.
In vintage Gerrit Cole fashion, he dominated the batters facing him, striking out ten batters in 4 1/3 innings of work while allowing only one unearned run in the process.
The overall numbers in Cole’s minor league starts thus far sure look like he is rounding back into his CY Young form that he showed off last year. In three recent starts, Cole has struck out 19 batters and walked none in 12⅓ innings.
If he pitches anything like this for the Yankees when he makes his return, the Yankees pitching staff should only get better, which should be a real concern for the rest of the league.
